MaxiGro and MaxiBloom are good AeroGarden nutrient alternatives. They aren't as convenient as the AeroGarden nutrients, but if you're on a budget, these are the nutrients I recommend. Use MaxiGro for greens and MaxiBloom for fruiting plants such as tomatoes and peppers.

How long do AeroGarden domes last?

We suggest you keep the dome (transparent cap) on until you see the sprouts almost reaching it - just like shown in the picture below. The dome is there to create greenhouse-like conditions for the seeds to start sprouting faster and more effectively. There is no need to remove the white U-shaped lids.

Can I put my AeroGarden by a window?

You will have to provide supplemental light until they are ready to go outside. You can do that with a high powered grow light, or potentially your AeroGarden will cast off enough light from the LED grow light hood to support the seedlings. Or place your seedlings near a sunny window.

Do AeroGarden lights need to be replaced?

How long do they last? If your AeroGarden uses LED lights, you do not need to replace your LED light hood until individual diodes begin to fail. Diodes have a 2-4 year lifespan.

Is tap water OK for AeroGarden?

Choose the type of water you use carefully – The directions specify to use tap water or distilled water. My recommendation is not to use tap water, especially if you use a water softener, the added sodium in the water can stunt or even prevent the plants from growing.
