The Minneola Tangelo or Honeybell Tree is a natural cross of the tart Duncan grapefruit and the sweet Dancy tangerine. This citrus tree has shiny dark-green pointed leaves, and fragrant blooms. These Trees produce large, juicy, sugary-sweet, easy to peel, seedless bell-shaped fruits that are called “Honeybells”.

Are Honeybell trees self pollinating?

Another interesting fact to note about a the Honeybell is that they are not self-pollinating trees. This means they require another citrus tree be planted nearby for cross-pollinating. In fact, this is the only way a Honeybell tree will bear oranges.

What does a Honeybell taste like?

Honeybells are usually the size of an adult fist and have a mixed sweet and sour flavor of the sweet mandarin and the tart flavored grapefruit. They're also very juicy - usually way more juice than it has flesh. Since they have loose skin, they are pretty easy to peel, especially when compared to regular oranges.

How long do honey bells last?

If kept at room temperature, honeybells usually keep for only about four days. Chilled honeybells are a refreshing snack after a workout or whenever you want to cool down. The chilly juice in the honeybells will run down your chin and cool you off inside.

When should I buy a HoneyBell?

You can only buy Honeybells for a brief, fleeting time from the beginning of January through the middle of February. These gems have a short, but sweet season. Get 'em when you can.

When should I pick my HoneyBell oranges?

Honeybells are ripe and ready in January through early-Spring.

Do Honeybells have seeds?

Most HoneyBells, about 80%, are seedless, but if some of yours have seeds, blame the bees (we are not making this up). Sometimes the honeybees pick up pollen from the seeded varieties of oranges and grapefruit growing in nearby groves and carry it to the HoneyBell trees. The result is seeds in some of our HoneyBells.
